So, that took almost an hour. 26, not so bad. I'm a vicious re-reader. And really, no Laura Ingalls Wilder? They couldn't throw us a bone with Anne Rice? Ugh.

09:43 pm - Lover-ly day!

Today was nice. Heather and Chris came over to play as they are on their vacation. They want costumes for Renn faire. Chris already has one so we needed to fine something for Heather.

After we found one, we needed to find fabric, notions, trims, etc. We found some at PA Fabric Outlet and everything else at Hancock. I bought 1 yard of the most gorgeous trim for my new yellow dress. Why only one yard? It was $13!!! And this was close to wholesale. But it's beautiful.

I feel like I'm turning into a pod person. I enjoy sewing so much more than I thought I ever would. The creation, the nit-picky details. Even when things go wrong, I can fix it.

We had to try to convince Heather to go for a corset, but I think her husband Chris will take care of that.

Tomorrow, the dentist. Some cosmetic work to be done. Thank goodness my ipod is back. I need my music to block out the scary sounds.

06:05 pm - So hot, so sticky!

We just got home from the Medieval Majesty Renaissance Faire which is up near Williamsport, PA. Luckily, we did not get rained on. However, the rain was kind enough to not blow out the heat and humidity, it just made it worse.

This was the first year for this Renn faire, and oh my!

It was not good. There were about 15 (tops) vendors. Only about 10 actors working. The joust was, ummm...., interesting. The whole thing took place in a space the size of the chess board area at the PA Renn Faire. Total number of people there... maybe 100.

We bought a candle. Because it smells like key lime pie, but mainly because we felt sorry for the kids working the booth. Nicest thing about it was that there was a fiddler walking around the whole time, but really, that's it. We stayed about 2 hours total, and that felt like a long time.

Also, you kind of have to worry when you're standing there in full costume (which did look great - I'll get pictures up soon) and the one jeweler tells you: "There's this place to go...on the web...www.sca.org, you can find lots of info out there!" Now Chris and I aren't SCA, we've got nothing against SCA, but I just don't think that we looked like 2 people who were at the faire for the first time ever. I mean, we weren't wearing little wreaths or robin hood hats or carrying a wooden sword or plastic armor or anything like that. Anyhow.

So, on our way home we stopped at Country Cupboard and had a wonderful lunch and got lots of yummy yummy snacks!!! Now we're home and we have much cleaning to do, as Chris and Heather will be coming over on Monday to go fabric shopping for a costume for her.

iPod update - so far, so good. I'm taking it slow.

Now I've got to clean out this hutch on top of this desk, because we're getting rid of it. Oh yes, my reorganization fit has kicked in yet again!!!

Still no cigs - I believe all nicotine to be out of my system. I still crave them though. Jenn, I don't think that will ever, ever go away.

12:13 am - I may be a genius!

I don't know how, but I may have fixed my iPod. I've tried the 5 R's that they recommend on the website on 2 different macs. That didn't work. So I tried it in a different order. Still didn't work. Tried different cables and a different order and opened up a website - viola! It works.

However, I am now going to back up all my music on the hard drive, then reformat the durn thing, just to be safe. We'll just start all over.

Am very happy. Must shower!

07:00 pm - Some peoples' are crazy!

Today was my birthday celebration with my mom. As per usual, it could not be spent, just with her, she had to bring "protection" with her, in the form of Aunt Suzie, Grandma and Grandpa.

There's all kinds of craziness that happens when Grandma is around. First, you have to find something she will eat. She had roast turkey, baked potato, and applesauce. No gravy, extra butter (8 packs!) and absolutely no cinnamon on her applesauce (that part she yelled at our waitress - b/c "it burns me!"). Of that, she pulled the potato out of the skin, dipped into the butter packets, had 4 bites of turkey, and ate all of her applesauce. Then she yelled at Grandpa to finish it, or it would "be a waste of money". When it came time for dessert, she had a huge bowl of ice cream, glass of milk, and a big piece of cake that my Aunt Suzie made. All the while, she mutters her usual comments, and anyone that's every spoken to her once, knows what her usual is.

Aunt Suzie was pretty good. Although, she's upset about the new Hanover library, and that it's not called the Hanover library. It's named after some guy. And he didn't even give that much money. And it's not fair. And it's not right. Then Mom started agreeing with this and they were like 2 hens. I told them that Hanover just needs to have a controversy to peck about. They both seemed a little miffed about that.

Grandpa was fairly quiet. I think sometimes he and I are like two war vets that just try to make it through each occasion with a smile on our face.

Mom was pretty good for a while, but eventually, the mean-daddy comments came out. Then, when it was time to leave, her car wouldn't start. We tried to jump it in case the battery was dead, but that didn't work, so AAA to the rescue. I waited with her until they came and then she started getting weepy.

After all this happened, I had to do a little shopping at Kohl's and Snyder's outlet, then pick up my paycheck at Hecht's/Macy's. One of my co-workers asked me to chat and have a smoke with her, but I declined, as I have gone 3 days without smoking. I believe the nicotine to be out of my system now. It's all mental at this point. I haven't killed anyone, or even snapped badly.

That's it, tomorrow, we go to new Renn faire in Williamsport. It will be hot. Yippee!

BTW - welcome to hema_geek (that's Chris).

09:26 am - I am officially old!

Yesterday I turned 30. I know to most people 30 is not a big deal. I thought It wouldn't be a big deal for me either. But apparently it is. It doesn't help that I've had an extremely moody husband for the past 3 weeks, although he was a little better yesterday. It's not as though I'm dissatisfied with my life or I'm not where I thought I'd be when I turned 30.

It's just that it happened so damn quick. Somebody should have warned me!

11:33 pm - Happy Birthday Daddy

Today my sweet Daddy is 51 years young. Happy birthday to him. Many thanks to my friends and family for spoiling me at my birthday party (even though I don't turn 30 until Tuesday). Lots and lots of iTunes giftcards, which are soooooooooooooooooo appreciated, pretty jewelry, books, barbies, and arrgh - Pirates of the Caribbean things. And my perfect husband gave me a copy of the Wicked Grimmerie. I gave my copy to my accompanist as a thank-you and I've been missing it.

I am a spoiled rotten Jess. I have perfect friends and family.

Jess loves everyone. And I haven't even been drinking!

02:34 pm - Arrgh!

So went to the midnight showing of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 last night. Not as good as the first, not as many good Capt. Jack Sparrow moments, but oh my. The Orlando Bloom crush is fully back on. I don't know how much he bulked up for this, but that back, those shoulders, that hair, swoon! Also, very happy the music is still all swashbuckle-y. And for the 3rd, we're dressing up!!! Dammit!!!

And 2 of the trailers were much fun! Don't want to say anything, but truly enjoyed the crowds geek-gasm reaction to the one!!!

I didn't get home until 3:45 and was still to wound up to sleep, so it was about 4:45 till I went to bed. So Jenn, Stac, I did sleep until 10:30 - I'm sorry. I know I promised to get up at 8, but I couldn't. I'm going to try to get back on a real schedule this week, because it's shameful!!!

Tonight is my 30th birthday party (gulp!). I don't know when it happened and I know 30 isn't old. It's just that one day I was happily 27 and all of the sudden, I'm turning 30 on Tuesday - which kind of sucks. At least my friends and I are all DINKs (Double Income No Kids) which is much fun!

Well, I still haven't showered, I need to wrap Daddy's present and run 1 errand, so I better get on that.

This is my full weekend at the store, so I don't know how much updating I'll do, but I'll try.

11:46 am - I am a lazy butt!

Okay - summer vacation is great in many respects. For those who don't know, I'm a music teacher and work really, really hard during the school year, directing musicals, choirs, being on committees, concerts, etc. Plus I teach private lessons and work a part time job. If you take the hours I work and average them out to the whole year, it comes out to me only having a 2 week vacation because of the amount of time I put into my school musical from January to April (although I'm working on it as we speak).

Anyhow, last night was up until almost 4. Doing what, not much. Reading my new issue of MacAddict, watching a documentary about Swingers (yes, that kind of Swingers), and smoking while I can.

Suffice it to say, I slept until 11:30. This is disgusting and can't happen any more. I have to start having a more normal, productive schedule.

I have much to do now, before my kiddos arrive at 4. Although Ben won't be here - he's apparently "almost broken his hand", so no piano. And Maggie, one of my favorite people in the world, is in Detroit, with her church! I told her to behave, she told me she was planning on getting a tattoo, pick up a few bikers and maybe enter the white slave trade. Love that kid!!!

BTW, for anyone that's interested. This is the address where my podcasts are stored: http://weblog.wssd.k12.pa.us:16080/weblog/jpugliano/?action=add-blog-entry Copy and paste into your browser, and then click on the button that says RSS Podcast at the bottom. That will put them into iTunes for you and then you'll just need to update them from time to time. They're mostly educational, because I have to do them for school, but some are fun! And if you don't have iTunes, what are you waiting for???

06:16 pm - Shopping time!!!

So after spending the day watching The Notebook (why didn't somebody warn me - I actually cried telling Chris about the stupid movie!), I had to go and buy Daddy birthday presents. Just a little something because he and I are going to see Cirque du Soleil Delirium at Giant Center.

Of course I go to my store, Hecht's/Macy's, b/c my discount is a good thing, but we don't have much. So I wait for Chris to get home and then we have some yummy Mexican El Rodeo and go to the East Shore Hecht's.

I have been in the market for Renaissance jewelry for all of my costumes. I'm good on necklaces and earrings, what I'm lacking in is bracelets. Fortunately Hecht's/Macy's got in a massive amount of tackola rings with huge gems in them. $20/a piece and I get my discount. We found 2 that would work, which is about what we pay for rings at Renn faires.

Then we went to the homestore in Hecht's/Macy's. For those that don't know. Macy's bought out all of the May company stores like Strawbridges, Hecht's, Robinsons-May, Filene's, Marshall Field's, etc. So we're eliminating a lot of merchandise that Macy's won't carry that Hecht's did. Which means, you can get really good stuff for super cheap. Here's the run-down of what we bought:

New pillow (for me)
New bath accessories (toothbrush holder, cup, soap dispenser, cotton ball holder and matching shower curtain rings) in this really cool Renaissance-y goblet-y style. Too geeky for us to pass up.
New fabric shower curtain
Two Farbarware pots with lids
Two Calphalon butcher knives
and
Toaster oven (the husband has to have one).

Now to put this in perspective the original price on the small pot was $85. We got the whole lot for $105 and I get 25% off. So now we're home. Chris is finishing cutting out my costume and I'm going to work on the lining to the bodice to my new gown. Yeep!

Tomorrow - midnight showing of Pirates with my girls!!!

02:29 pm - 1st post

Well, it's definitely been a while! I used to be rosemuze, but I can't recall at all my old login and password and since I no longer have that email address, it will no longer help me. So here we go.

So far, it's been an uneventful July 4th (1 week until I turn 30!!!). The husband and I went out for lunch at the West Shore Family Restaurant, which is where we usually have breakfast on Saturdays, but since I woke up at 11, that wasn't happening.

Then, we went to Joann fabrics to pick up more trim for new Renaissance costumes. I swear, I have spent twice as much on trim as I did on the fabric, and it's still not enough. Then we got stuck in a rainstorm.

Now we're home and he's cutting out my gold costume for me while I'm trying to put my new shelves together. They're very mean. They're supposed to be pre-fabricated and easy. They don't have certain holes already drilled in them. So we had to find our cordless drill. Then, it has to get more juice in it which is why I'm sitting here posting, because I can't keep moving on.

Yesterday was much fun - we walked up to City Island and to Whitaker Center to see Superman Returns on Imax 3-D. Only about 20 minutes worth of 3-D, but really good. This was, of course, my 2nd time seeing it. I only wish the opening credits had been in 3-D, and yes Jenn, that giddy feeling is still there!

Well, hopefully I've got enough battery to get these shelves going. We're going down to my Daddy's for homemade chicken corn soup and stuff!
